The Pastoral Care Department of the Cathedral has two clergy available for counsel and visitation: The Rev. Canon Carolynne Williams and The Rev. Canon Todd Smelser. They are assisted by The Rev. Bill Harkins,and The Rev. Thee Smith. The Cathedral Counseling Center, located at the Lanier House on the Cathedral campus, is a satellite office of the Care and Counseling Center of Georgia under the direction of the Reverend Eloise Hally, who is the Cathedral Center’s Director. For appointments, call 404-841-4953.
PreMarital Workshops are conducted in conjunction with Care and Counseling of Georgia one Saturday each month. For more information, please contact Donna Reed (404-636-1457, extension 0). A brochure (including registration form) is available: download 2008-2009 dates.
Clergy of the Day. Every day of the week, one of the Cathedral clergy are on call to respond to emergencies, and to visit those in the hospital. If you have an emergency when the offices are closed, please call 404-365-1000 and say "Pastoral Emergency."
Prayer List. To add a name to the Prayer List, please contact Dan Murphy in the Pastoral Care office, 404-365-1034. Prayer cards are also available at the receptionist window at the church. Names usually remain on the Prayer List for a month. Note that due to privacy issues, the person must give permission to have their name on the Prayer List.
Stephen Ministry. Stephen Ministers are trained members of the parish who offer companionship, empathetic listening and comfort to fellow members of the parish. They work with the clergy to assist in the Cathedral's pastoral ministry. Learn more about Stephen Ministery.
Wedding Guild. These members coordinate all weddings in the chapel and Cathedral, especially working with brides before the wedding, and assisting at the rehersal and wedding. Contact Dan Murphy to schedule a wedding.
Funeral Committee assists the clergy and family members at the time of a funeral at the Cathedral, providing support for those attending.
Home-Bound Ministry. Visitation and home communion are provided for members who are unable to attend church. Clergy and other parish members regularly visit the Cathedral Towers, Canterbury Court, Lenbrook Square, Campbell Stone and Nursecare of Buckhead, in addition to all the hospitals and rehabilitation centers. Lay Eucharistic Ministers bring the sacrament of Holy Communion from the Sunday Eucharist to those who are sick or shut-in at home. Please contact Dan Murphy, 404-365-1034, in the Pastoral Care office to arrange.
Hope Recovery Ministry. Trained laypersons minister to those struggling with alcohol or substance abuse. HOPE ministers refer callers to recovery centers, hospitals, and twelve-step groups, and also foster education programs (speakers, classes, etc.) at the Cathedral.
Noonday Prayers. Every weekday and Saturday at noon, the Cathedral's intercessory prayer list is prayed for in the chapel.
Prayer Teams. Members of the Order of St. Luke are available to pray with members of the church in St. Luke's Chapel during the 11:15 a.m. Eucharists in the Catheral.
Good Grief Support Group. Meets 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Lanier House Library. All those who have lost a loved one are invited for this time of sharing and caring. For more information, contact Pastoral Care, 404-365-1034 or Kit Mason, 404-355-8724.
